It’s official. Boston City Councilor Tito Jackson is challenging Boston Mayor Marty Walsh. He made his announcement today in a thirty-second online video.

“I am running for mayor of the city of Boston for all of the dreams of young people,” Jackson said in the video. “I will ensure that our government protects people living with dignity because Boston is a city of compassion and we must work together if we are to succeed.”

Jackson currently represents District 7 on the Boston City Council. It includes Roxbury, and parts of the South End, Dorchester, and Fenway.

Jackson is calling himself the “progressive choice for mayor.” Marty Walsh is seeking re-election for a second term.
