Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle seen almost everything in his four-plus decades in Major League Baseball. But he still has one item on his baseball bucket list: Opening Day at Fenway Park. On April 3 he can cross it off the list. His Pirates will open the season against the Sox at Fenway.

“This year, opening day is going to be significant,” Hurdle told WEBN Sports prior to facing the Braves at Lecom Park in Bradenton.

“I’ve never experienced an Opening Day in Fenway,” he said. “As a baseball purist, to have an opening day at Fenway, it’s pretty good. Looking forward to it.”

Who can blame Hurdle for his Fenway fantasy? Fenway Park is the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball. It opened its doors in 1912 and goes by the moniker of “America’s most beloved ballpark”. It’s the perfect place to open the season.

Hurdle didn’t make much of an impact as a player, ending his career with a .259 batting average. However, he has been a first rate manager. He was named the NL manager of the year in 2013 turning the Pirates into perennial contenders in spite of being a small market team.

First pitch of the Sox/Pirates opener April 3 is set for 2:05 p.m.
