Terror struck New York on Tuesday when a pick-up truck plowed into a bike path along the Hudson River, leaving 8 people dead and 11 injured.

The motorist, identified as Sayfullo Saipov smashed into a school bus, got out of his truck, and ran up and down the highway with a pellet gun and paintball gun shouting “Allahu Akbar”, Arabic for “God is great.” He was then shot in the abdomen by an officer and remains in critical condition.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio declared the incident a terrorist attack and federal law enforcement authorities are leading the investigation. Handwritten notes written in Arabic that claimed allegiance to the Islamic State were found by the truck. Saipov came to the United States from Uzbekistan in 2010 with a green card that allowed permanent legal residence. The New York F.B.I. decline to comment on whether Saipov has been on the Bureau’s radar.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo assured people “There’s no evidence that suggests a wider plot or scheme.” Officials are calling this the deadliest terrorist attack on New York City since Sept. 11, 2001.
