A shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas left 27 dead and more than 20 people injured, sunday.

Authorities have identified the shooter as 26 year old Devin Patrick Kelley of New Braunfels who was killed as he fled the scene.

Kelley began firing at the church and proceeded to fire as he entered the the building around noon. He was wearing all black and a ballistic vest armed with an AR-15 style weapon. 23 people were found dead in the church, two outside and one died after being rushed to the hospital.

A witness of the shooting and a resident of Sutherland Springs pursued the suspect by shooting at him as he drove away in his vehicle. The chase went on for over 10 miles and ended as Kelley’s vehicle crashed. Kelley was found dead inside his vehicle. Authorities are still unsure if Kelley was killed due to the resident’s gunshot or a self inflicting gunshot.

Officials say the incident was not racially or religiously motivated.

Kelley served in the United States Air Force from 2010 to 2014. He was court-martialed in 2012 for charges of assault on his spouse and their child. He also was charged with misdemeanor in animal cruelty in Colorado.
