Algae Threatens Birds
By Alyssa Altman — 10/26/09
An unusual algae bloom is threatening migratory birds. On the West Coast, a single cell algae form is making hundreds of special migratory birds wash up dead on the beaches of Oregon and Washington. Scientists are blaming this on a rapid increase in the amount of algae. Now more than 100 of the most sensitive birds are being transported to the San Francisco Bay Area where they can be cared for in a rescue facility for oiled birds.
