Europe will soon be receiving solar power from the Sahara Desert. The project known as the Desertec Industrial Initiative plans to place thousands of solar panels in Africa. The panels will generate heat to power turbines. These turbines will then create electricity and send it to Europe. This technology is known as concentrated solar power. It is expected to provide 15% of Europe’s electricity by 2050. Though this technology is not new, it has never been completed on such a large scale. The $400 billion project is expected to be completed in 6 years.
