Ligety Peaks at Perfect Time

Ted Ligety knows how to go for the gold. After an umimpressive season, the American alpine star finds himself peaking at the perfect time, winning a World Cup race two weeks before the Opening Ceremony.
“Ligety Split” will enter his second Olympics with a much more impressive resume than the first time around. That says a lot considering the Utah-native won a gold medal in combined in his first Olympics four years ago.
Before 2006, Ligety had not won one World Cup competition in his career. Since the Torino Olympics, he has won five World Cup giant slalom races.
Friday, Ligety captured his latest win at Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. This was Ligety’s first win of the season. Saturday, he finished third in the the second consecutive day of giant slalom. The 25-year-old currently leads the World Cup GS standings with 352 points.
Sunday Ligety will compete in the slalom race in Kranjska Gora. Tomorrow’s race will be the final World Cup competition before the Olympics. He will compete in Vancouver for more Olympic hardware February 13th – 27th.
Ted Ligety told WEBN, “There’s ten guys on any given day that have a really good chance of winning, so that’s the tough part… but I feel like I have a good chance as well.”
