From the Red Carpet to the Runway

The big question next to who will take home the gold at the Academy Awards is what will the stars be wearing? Natalia Romano is a competitor in the Oscars Designer Challenge, Natalia Romano has the chance to dress a guest on the red carpet.
The Oscars Designer competition offers one lucky up-and-coming fashion designer the opportunity to have an original gown worn by one of the award escorts. Natalia Romano is one of nine finalists.
The twenty two year old graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise in Los Angeles.
Romano has been stitching and sewing clothes since she was nine years old. From the time she fell in love with clothes, Romano said one of her biggest icons was Academy Award winning costume designer Colleen Atwood.
Romano was recently asked to participate in a contest where she was able to work with some of Atwood’s latest designs. Romano was asked to redesign the costumes for the Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum characters from Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland to make them runway appropriate.
Colleen Atwood is nominated again this year for her work in Alice in Wonderland. Other nominees in the Best Costume Design category at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards are Antonella Cannarozzi for I Am Love, Jenny Beavan for The King’s Speech, Sandy Powell for The Tempest, and Mary Zophres for True Grit.
