Jenna Lamia walked into the room. The dainty blonde had the personality of an American Sweetheart – sweet, funny, charming, and extremely down to earth.
However, that’s not the role she played in the Oscar nominated film “The Fighter.” Nominated for seven Oscars, this true story is based on Micky Ward’s rise to the top as a professional boxer and the downfall of his drug addicted professional boxing brother Dick Eklund. Dickie and Micky are two of nine children to Alice Ward (Best Supporting Actress Nominee Melissa Leo). Alice also has seven daughters, and together they represent the bond that blood is thicker than water.
Jenna Lamia plays Sherri Ward, one of the tough talking, no nonsense sisters to Dickie (Best Supporting Actor Nominee Christian Bale) and Micky (Mark Wahlberg). Lamia’s character supports her drug addicted brother Dickie no matter how trivial his drug abuse may be. But at the same time, she refuses to let go of her other brother who wants to climb the ranks of the boxing world.
Lamia was able to meet the real life sister that she portrays in the film. And all of the sisters had to go through hair and makeup to make them less attractive. She jokingly said that director David O. Russell told her that she was fine and to just put her best 1980’s ponytail on top of her head.
Accents actually happen to be Lamia’s specialty. Lamia had to make sure to put on her best thick Boston accent. She is even an Audie-award winner
Lamia is also known for starring in the pilot episode of “Strangers with Candy” as a popular girl named Poppy Downes.
