Castellano Is Ready With Derby Kitten

Think of 19 horses, 2 minutes and 2 million dollars…that is the stake at tomorrow’s Kentucky Derby. WEBN got a chance to speak to derby jockey Javier Castellano. He is riding Derby Kitten and says he’s comfortable with his post position.
“I feel really good. There are 20 horses and I am right around the middle. My horse is very docile and he’s good in any position so I’m very hopeful.”
Aside from the hundreds of thousands of screaming fans, the jockeys will have to also brave the weather. Heavy rains have plagued the city and that is a major obstacle for horses like Animal Kingdom. He will be riding on wet dirt for the first time. But to Castellano rain will not be a factor. He is confident Derby Kitten will run well, rain or shine.
“Usually horses that can run on grass like to run in muddy tracks. I think I have enough options that the horse might like the track and that we may have a lot of luck on our side to win.”
This year will mark Castellano’s fifth appearance at the derby but the 34 year old jockey is not taking any chances. He believes a big factor in claiming the purse is luck.
“Luck is a big factor. Everything depends on the horse and it would be wonderful if I had the chance to win but they are the top 20 horses in the nation, anything can happen.”
