Valentine’s Day Comes Early For Boston
By Patrick Hutchinson — 11/29/11
The Boston Red Sox have chosen Bobby Valentine to become their next manager.
Valentine, who this past season was an ESPN analyst for “Baseball Tonight”, is returning to the bigs after almost a decade.
Boston had minimized their search between Valentine and Detroit Tiger’s third base coach Gene Lamont, but as of early Tuesday night, Valentine came out as the next Red Sox manager, replacing Terry Francona.
Valentine’s managerial resume includes .510 winning percentage, accumulating wins with the Texas Rangers and New York Mets, with Valentine taking New York to the World Series in 2000. Valentine also went overseas to Japan for six seasons, managing the Chiba Lotte Marines to a Japan Series title in 2005.
A press conference is scheduled to take place Thursday to formally introduce Valentine.
