The “Santorum Surge” Fizzles
By Elizabeth Montaquila–1/11/2012
Rick Santorum fell flat in New Hampshire.
Despite the former Senator’s surprising success at the Iowa Caucuses, Santorum failed to give frontrunner Mitt Romney a run for his money. Santorum finished fourth in the primary, tied with Newt Gingrich.
But Santorum says he will continue in the GOP race. In his speech to supporters following the Primary results, Santorum was optimistic about the future of his campaign and pursuit of the GOP Presidential nomination.
He said that although he did not spend a lot of time or money in New Hampshire, he was satisfied with the impression he made on the Granite State. He said, “We delivered a message not just for New Hampshire. We delivered a message for America.”
Santorum will continue his campaign in South Carolina, where the state will vote in its primary election in just 10 days.
