Republican Gabriel Gomez used social media to announce he is running for the U.S. Senate.

“If you are happy with the ways things are going in our government, I’m not your kind of candidate.” Gomez said in his announcement video. “Washington bickers and fights over everything.”

“I’m not a politician, so I have a very different campaign.” Gomez said in his announcement video.  He went on to pledge to be a voice for bipartisanship, reasonableness and common sense.

Gomez is the son of Colombian immigrants.  He is also a former Navy SEAL and Boston businessman. It’s his first time to make a bid for office.

Gomez joins State Representative Daniel Winslow as the GOP candidates in the race. Winslow is a former district court judge and chief legal counsel to Mitt Romney.

On the Democratic side, Congressmen Edward Markey and Stephen Lynch are also running.

This senate seat belonged to John Kerry who resigned to become Secretary of State.  The Massachusetts primary is April 30 and the special election is June 25.
