Tonight President Obama stressed helping the middle class during his State of the Union Address on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

He introduced new reforms and bills like the “Fix-It-First” program, bringing 33,000 American troops home within the next year, a proposed hike in the minimum wage to $9, and gun reform.  He promised to work to create new jobs and praised companies that have been doing just that.

President Obama also pointed out many audience members who had been affected by gun violence including Sandy Hook, Connecticut parents, former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, and the Chicago parents of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton.  He called on Congress to vote on gun reform, urging “They deserve a vote.”

The President pushed Congress to compromise on legislation by saying Americans are citizens regardless of their beliefs, it describes the way they were made and what they believe in.
