Massachusetts, Colombia Combine Wits
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos have signed a memorandum of understanding.
The agreement is to share knowledge about life sciences and clean energy between the South American country and the Commonwealth. The hope is that this new partnership will create more jobs in Massachusetts and educate workers for these jobs.
“As our innovation economy grows, companies based in Massachusetts will look around the world for new avenues for partnership and progress,” said Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Greg Bialecki.
This new alliance is also expected to influence advancements in modern medicine. The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center will implement the decade-long $1 billion iniative. The recent effort is a way for both to work together in creating new drugs and medical devices, said the company’s CEO & President Susan Windham-Bannister.
This education and dialogue on technology and science is expected to come from collaborations between public and private institutions and universities, as well as non-governmental organizations from both places.
