Republican Charlie Baker is making a second attempt at the Massachusetts Governor’s office. Three years ago Baker ran against incumbent Governor Deval Patrick and lost by about 6 percentage points.
Baker took to social media in a two-minute YouTube video to announce his candidacy. He said he would make state government more affordable, accountable and business friendly.
“I want a growing economy where every person who wants to work, can; great schools that ensure opportunity for every single child; vibrant economies for our cities and towns and communities and neighborhoods that are safe,” Baker said in the video.
Baker is the first Republican to enter the 2014 race.
On the Democratic side, several have declared their candidacies, including state Treasurer Steven Grossman, former federal and state homeland security official Juliette Kayyem, former Wellesley selectman Joseph Avellone, and former Obama administration health care official Don Berwick. Both Congressman Michael Capuano and Attorney General Martha Coakley have said they will decide soon about their possible run.
