Boston’s first green library has opened its doors.
Spirited Red Sox fans surrounded Mayor Thomas Menino recently as he opened the new East Boston library. Certified by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) this new Boston Public Library is totally self-sustainable.
The open space building is equipped with community reading rooms, conference rooms, and multipurpose rooms.
Mayor Menino is confident the community will make the most of the new Bremen Street library.
“The residents of East Boston are going to love their new library,” said Menino. “It will serve as an educational center for the whole community, bringing together children, teens, and adults for opportunities to read, learn, and contribute positively to our city.”
The library is open Monday through Saturday.
