Menino Accepts Position at Boston University

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino is moving to academia.

Mayor Menino is becoming co-director of Boston University’s “Initiative on Cities.” The initiative is creating a network of communication among cities across America to solve urban issues collaboratively. Menino will be present on campus and will likely guest lecture. Environmental issues are his top priority.

Menino has previously received several offers from other academic institutions, including Harvard University. He chose Boston University out of loyalty to his hometown.

“I love Harvard, but it’s on the other side of the river,” Menino said.

Menino has been Boston’s mayor for twenty years. His final mayoral term will end onJanuary 6 and he will assume his new position in February.
