There is only one undefeated team left in college basketball.

The Boston College Eagles (7-19, 3-10 Atlantic Coast Conference) pulled off the biggest upset of the college basketball season tonight with a 62-59 win over the previously undefeated and top ranked Syracuse Orangemen (25-1, 12-1 Atlantic Coast Conference).
Syracuse led by eight points at half time, but a furious Boston College rally led by sophomore guard Oliver Hanlan tied the game up down the stretch. Syracuse’s Rakeem Christmas missed a hook shot from five-feet out in the final seconds that would have won the game for Syracuse.

Instead, overtime.

Boston College jumped out to an early lead in overtime and never let the Orangemen recover. BC guard Lonnie Jackson made four free throws in the extra period to keep the game out of reach. Syracuse’s Trevor Cooney attempted a game tying three pointer with seconds remaining on the clock, but his shot hit from rim, sealing the victory for the Eagles.

The loss drops Syracuse to 25-1 on the season, even though the team’s last few games have all come down to the wire. The win is BC’s first win over a ranked team all year. Boston College will try and continue it’s winning streak on Saturday when the team travels down to South Beach to play the Miami Hurricanes.
