New Mayor Marty Walsh has vowed to boycott the South Boston St. Patrick’s Day parade. The mayor says he’s not marching if the gay community is excluded from marching under their own banners. This is an act former Mayor Thomas Menino has done year by year to support the members of the LGBTQ community. Although a deal has not been met, Walsh says he is hoping to persuade the parade’s organizers. The organizer won a Supreme Court ruling in 1995 giving them permission to exclude groups deemed offensive.
