Baker is a businessman and politician. He attended Harvard University and received his MBA from the Kellog School of Management at Northwestern University.
Baker has previously served as a cabinet official under two Massachusetts governors. He has also spent ten years as the CEO of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. Baker strongly advocates and stands for fiscal conservatism as well as social liberalism. He stresses that job creation is his main focus. On October 27, 2014, the Boston Globe revealed that it would officially support and endorse Baker. This is the first time in twenty years that a republican candidate has been supported by the newspaper. They shared that a republican would be beneficial in improving the reforms that former Governor Deval Patrick created relating to education, health care, and public transportation.
Though Coakley had been in in a steady lead up until October 7th, Baker changed up the game and is currently at 48.0% while Coakley is at 44.1%. Republicans have dominated Massachusetts in prior years, and Baker is in a stable lead. Only time will tell if this tend will continue to transpire.
