The matchup of the week between two explosive offenses in the SEC was not the offensive battle it was expected to be. Ole Miss, now 6-2, did not allow Texas A&M into the end zone and they only had 192 total yards.

Even though Ole Miss pulled out the win, its offense did not play to the usual standards.

Chad Kelly threw for 241 yards with two touchdowns. Laquon Treadwell had five receptions for 102 yards with a touchdown. Running back Jaylen Walton ran for 97 yards. There were a few miscues in the offense, specifically Kelly throwing three interceptions.

This was the first game for left tackle Laremy Tunsil after he missed the first half of the season due to an NCAA suspension for receiving illegal benefits. With him on the line, they improved from 40 rushing yards last week to 230 this week.

Texas A&M has now lost two straight and sit at 5-2. Sophomore Kyle Allen completed 12 of 34 passes for 88 yards before he was taken out of the game. Jake Hubenak replaced him in the fourth quarter and went 6-11 for 46 yards.

Texas A&M’s only score came on a 44-yard field goal by Taylor Bertolet in the second quarter.

The defense for the Rebels was unstoppable even with the star defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche out due to a concussion he received last week against Memphis.

With the win Ole Miss moves up five spots in the AP Top 25 to the 19th spot while Texas A&M is no longer in the top 25. With the loss the Aggies’ chances of competing for the SEC Championship are over.

This game was crucial for the Rebels to continue their bid for the SEC Championship. Ole Miss is still a game behind in the Western Division, but they host the number one spot, LSU, in November.

Next week, Ole Miss travels to face the unranked Auburn University. Ole Miss should be able to sail through this game but it is another must-win to stay in the hunt to catch LSU for the top spot in the Western Division.
