Jerseys with the name Ortiz and No. 34 on the back were the highest selling jerseys in the 2013 offseason and in the top ten during the 2015 season.
Hundreds of thousands of David Ortiz jerseys are sold each year; so Tommy Bahama has found a new way to make it unique.
The luxury sportswear company will produce only 550-650 one-of-a-kind silk shirts featuring Ortiz hitting a home run along with his long list of awards and career highlights in front of the infamous Green Monster.
“We are so excited to be able to develop a special ‘Collector’s Edition’ shirt honoring David Ortiz’s amazing career,” said Doug Wood, CEO of Tommy Bahama. “It’s projects like this one, that have made our long-standing partnership with Major League Baseball so rewarding.”
Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, and Jackie Robinson, were previously featured in a Tommy Bahama line, but Ortiz will be the first active player to make the list.
The shirts will debut on March 21 at the Tommy Bahama store and restaurant in Naples, Florida. Ortiz is expected to be at the event with a pen in hand to autograph some of the merchandise.
“I’m excited to announce the partnership with my guys at Tommy Bahama,” said Ortiz. “The event and these unique shirts are a great way to kick off my final season in the Major Leagues.”
The shirts will be sold at $250 each with 20 percent of the proceeds sold that day going to the David Ortiz Children’s Fund.
