Attorney General Jeff Sessions has offered a rare defense of him and the Justice Department against President Trump’s latest attack.
President Trump recently tweeted criticism of Sessions’ decision to investigate alleged surveillance abuses. “Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse. Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc, Isn’t the I.G. an Obama guy? Why not use Justice Department lawyers? DISGRACEFUL!, “Mr.Trump wrote.
In response, Sessions said that the Justice Department initiated the appropriate process and he has performed his job with honor and integrity and will continue to work in a fair manner.

The president has criticized the Justice Department in the past for not investigating Hillary Clinton’s deleted e-mails, as well as Sessions for recusing himself from overseeing the special counsel’s investigation.
Sessions did not publicly push back against the president’s earlier attacks. A source close to Sessions told CNN that he chose to respond this time as the criticism was directed at the process instead of him.
