President Trump Hits EU on Trade
By Allison Payne 3/12/2018
President Donald Trump has directed a stern warning tweet to the European Union, sharply criticizing European countries for their opposition to his new trade policy imposing tariffs on steel, aluminum and perhaps, automobiles.
President Trump’s tweet read: “The European Union, wonderful countries who treat the U.S. very badly on trade, are complaining about the tariffs on Steel & Aluminum. If they drop their horrific barriers & tariffs on U.S. products going in, we will likewise drop ours. Big Deficit. If not, we Tax Cars etc. FAIR!”
There is plenty of talk about a trade war between America and our top allies. This has sparked a backlash from US trading partners and the European Union. EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom said Friday that the EU is “counting on being excluded” from the new tariffs.
The tweet quoted above was among many that President Trump posted this past weekend. Other tweets mentioned include the President’s agreement with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull about steel and aluminum tariffs.
