President Trump’s Top Lawyer Resigns

President Donald Trump’s head lawyer, John Dowd, resigned Thursday morning. Dowd was tasked with overseeing the President’s response to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
Dowd was hired by the President last summer as Mueller’s investigation moved closer to the Trump campaign. Multiple news sources reported he repeatedly urged Mr. Trump to cooperate with the investigation and avoid attacking him publicly.
On Saturday, Dowd released a statement calling for the Special Counsel’s investigation to end. The next day, President Trump tweeted about alleged bias on Mueller’s team, writing “Why does the Mueller team have 13 hardened Democrats, some big Crooked Hillary supporters, and Zero Republicans? Another Dem recently added…does anyone think this is fair? And yet, there is NO COLLUSION!”
Earlier this week, the President hired Joseph diGenova, another veteran Washington lawyer to his legal team. DiGenova has publicly stated he believes Mr. Trump was framed by the FBI.
Special Counsel Mueller is investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. 22 people have been indicted in the investigation, including four members of the Trump campaign. President Trump has repeatedly called the investigation a “witch hunt.”
