LeBron James was his usual self in his debut with the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday, but that wasn’t enough as the Portland Trail Blazers crashed the party with a 128-119 win.

James finished with 26 points and 12 rebounds and Josh Hart provided a spark with 20 points off the bench, but Portland got trademark performances from its star backcourt of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum as the Blazers prevailed late.

James understands that there will be growing pains with as he attempts to build chemistry with the “Baby Lakers.”

“It’s not instant oatmeal. It’s not that fast,” James said. “It takes some time to get that chemistry where you can just close your eyes and know exactly where guys are.”

The win was the Blazers’ 16thstraight over the Lakers as they extended their winning streak in home openers to an NBA-record 18.
