The Northeastern Huskies won the 2019 Men’s Beanpot Championship, beating the Boston College Eagles 4-2 at TD Garden on Monday.

Sophomore goaltender Cayden Primeau earned Beanpot MVP honors by carrying the Huskies with 33 saves.

Northeastern opened up the scoring in the final minute of the first period when Austin Plevy poked in a wrap-around attempt to take a 1-0 lead.

The Huskies took a 2-0 lead when Patrick Schule sniped the puck into the top left corner.

Northeastern added a third goal 1:25 into the third period as Lincoln Griffin picked up a rebound and backhanded the puck into a wide-open net.

The Eagles fought back in the third period to cut Northeastern’s lead to one goal.  David Cotton backhanded a goal past Primeau to make the score 3-1 with 15:51 left. Eight minutes later, J.D. Dudek buried the Eagles’ second goal from the top of the crease.

However, Justin Solow sealed the deal for the Huskies on an empty net goal with 5 seconds remaining.

Northeastern’s victory marks its fifth Beanpot championship in program history.

In the consolation game, the Harvard Crimson beat the Boston University Terriers 5-2. Junior forward Frederic Gregoire scored two goals for the Crimson in the win.
