The Boston Red Sox Grapefruit League opener featured some drama from the up-and-comers. Appropriately, it came against the New York Yankees.

The Yankees put up three runs in the first two innings with a Gleyber Torres home run and RBIs by Matt Lipka and Aaron Hicks. The Red Sox responded with a run in the bottom of the second and then an offensive explosion in the third. Boston brought in five runs off RBIs by Rafael Devers and Bryce Brentz and a three-run shot by Michael Chavis giving the Sox a 6-3 lead.

From there, both teams were held scoreless by a committee of pitchers until a Ryan McBroom home run in the top of the eighth. A single by Kyle Holder brought in another run and New York found itself down by just one run. In the bottom of the eighth, a single by Juan Centeno brought two runners in and gave the Red Sox an 8-5 lead, which was the final score.
