It was a home game for Boston College, but Carolina blue packed Conte Forum. The University of North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the Eagles by a score of 79-66. North Carolina used an 8-0 run midway through the first half to extend its lead to 12. The Tar Heels never relinquished their double-digit lead for the rest of the game.
The story of the game was rebounding. North Carolina dominated on the boards, out-rebounding BC 60-35. Boston College was helpless to contain UNC’s two big men,Cameron Johnson and Luke Maye. Johnson finished the night with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Maye had 17 points and 20 rebounds.
BC shot only 34 percent from the field. The Eagles’ only real offensive contribution came from NBA prospect Ky Bowman and junior forward Nik Popovic. Bowman finished the night with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Nik Popovic scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half.
UNC head coach Roy Williams was happy with his team’s performance. “I’m very proud of our team, being the first North Carolina team to go 9-0 on the road in the ACC.”
BC head coach Jim Christian was disappointed in his team. “I didn’t think we fought in the first half,” Christian said. “You’ve got to score when you get good looks.”
Boston College will face N.C. State at home in its season finale on Saturday. The Tar Heels will face off with Duke at home in their final game of the season.
