The Vermont Catamounts tried their best against the number four seeded Florida State Seminoles but lost 76-69.
Even though Vermont fought hard, the Seminoles pulled away in the latter part of the second half.
Florida State had a tremendous second half by senior guard Terance Mann who finished the game with 19 points, 17 of which came in the second half. The senior dominated down the stretch scoring at critical times late in the second half to help secure a win.
Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton talked about how Terance Mann will do anything to win, but added that “when Terance was a freshman I dubbed him a stat stuffer.”
Coach Hamilton also talked about how good of a team Vermont is saying, “I think they are a really good basketball team. They are fundamentally sound.”
Vermont started out hot and lead early by as many as 9 points but was unable to hold on. The team was led by Anthony Lamb who finished with 16 points and 8 rebounds.
Vermont’s head coach gave credit to his team after a tough loss, “I thought we played well tonight,” he said, “I thought we really battled.”
Florida State will play Murray State in the next round of the tournament.
