Northeastern men’s ice hockey goalie Cayden Primeau was named tournament MVP when his team beat the Boston College Eagles, 3-2.
This marks the Huskies’ first Hockey East championship since 2016.
Northeastern netted all three of its goals in the first period. Matt Filipe opened up the scoring in the first period assisted by Brandon Hawkins.
Hawkins went on to score two more goals. One of them was on a power play after BC’s Luke McInnis was penalized for tripping.
The Eagles put up their two goals in the second period. Oliver Wahlstrom hit the back of the net just 18 seconds into the second period.
Northeastern goalie Cayden Primeau made 38 saves in the victory. The Huskies set a program record for wins in a season with their 27th coming in the Hockey East championship game.
“They had determination,” said Northeastern head coach Jim Madigan. “There were ebbs and flow in the game, we carried the play in the first, they carried it in the second, and in the third it was back and forth.”
Northeastern winger Brandon Hawkins said, “It’s big for our group. We put a set of goals in front of us when the season started being the Beanpot, Hockey East title. And when we bring home hardware like that it’s just a showing of how good our club is and how much we’ve come together in the past year.”
