It looked for a moment like Coco Gauff’s Wimbledon run would end today.
Her opponent Polona Hercog took the first set of the match and had a commanding 5-2 lead in the second set. That was until Gauff rallied and forced a tiebreaker, winning the second set 9-7 and taking the third set 7-5.
“I always knew I could come back no matter what the score was,” Gauff said. “I just kind of went for my shots.”
She is quickly becoming a fan favorite. Throughout the match, the crowd cheered her on.
Gauff said she was grateful that the fans stuck by her even when things looked rough. “Even when I was down match point, they were still cheering me on,” Gauff said.
Gauff will face her toughest opponent yet on Monday, taking on No.7 Simona Halep. Halep won the 2018 French Open and is a four-time Grand Slam finalist
