Coco Gauff’s Wimbledon elimination isn’t the end of her story. Wimbledon has put Gauff’s name in conversation with the world’s tennis stars. Simona Halep, who defeated Gauff in straight sets, praised her ability.
“It’s a huge thing that she is able to play in the fourth round at Wimbledon, and if she keeps going, she will be top ten soon,” Halep said. “She has potential to be a very good player.”
Gauff considers Wimbledon a learning experience.
“I learned how to play in front of a big crowd. I learned what it was like to be under pressure. I learned a lot and I’m really thankful for this experience,” Gauff said. “I hope they learned from me that anything is possible if you work hard, just continue to dream big.”
Gauff’s performance at Wimbledon, which included defeating Venus Williams, Magdalena Rybarikova, and Polona Hercog, moved her into the world top 150. Her ranking sets her up for a potential wildcard spot for the main draw at the US Open in August.
