For the first time since 2001, the Boston Bruins have begun a season 3-0. The B’s got their third consecutive win to start the season Tuesday night against the Las Vegas Golden Knights. The Bruins overcame a tough start to beat the Knights 4-3.
The Knights scored their first goal at 13:24 in the first period, off a Marc Andre- Fleury generated rush. Mark Stone potted his second goal of the year on a beautifully executed give and go play. Two minutes later, the Knights jumped on some spotty D-Zone coverage on the part of the B’s, with Reilly Smith scoring a goal against his former team.
Undaunted, the black and gold rallied offensively and scored their first goal a little over halfway through the first, with David Pastrnak neatly tucking the puck away off a steal from linemate Brad Marchand. Brad Marchand would score the game tying goal on the powerplay to make it a 2-2 goal at the end of one.
The B’s capitalized on their momentum in a dominant second period. Brad Marchand got things going early when he jumped on a mishandled dump by Golden Knights defenseman Shea Theodore. David Pastrnak banked the puck to a rushing Marchand, who turned goalie Marc-Andre Fleury’s head with a quick wrist shot, scoring top-shelf to give the Bruins the lead less than a minute into the second.. Soon after, defenseman Torey Krug scored on a screen-assisted blue line slap, bringing the score to 4-2 Bruins.
The Knights got a goal back in the third when Max Pacioretty scored on the powerplay with just under six minutes left. The Knights pulled Fleury, but couldn’t find a tying goal. The Bruins improved to 3-0 with a 4-3 road win.
Boston will finish their season opening four-game road trip against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday before returning to Boston for their home opener against the Devils on Saturday October 12th.
