The Detroit Tigers have ended their search for a franchise shortstop when they inked “El Mago” Javier Baez on a 6 year contract worth $140 million dollars.
The Tigers were determined to add a shortstop before the MLB’s collective bargaining agreement expired and if they waited until after they ran the chance of losing a shortstop all together.
With top prospect Spencer Torkelson and Riley Greene expected to come up in the next few years the future looks very promising for Detroit.
As many thought the Tigers would sign Carlos Correa due to this connection with manager AJ Hinch, this means Correa is obviously too expensive for any team to even consider.
When Corey Seager signs for a 10 year deal worth $325 million and a 37 year old pitcher earns around $44 million per season it’s going to be insane what Correa is going to get, we are looking at numbers we haven’t heard of yet and it will be interesting to see what happens.
