A winter storm warning is in effect at midnight tonight ahead of a storm bringing snow and a wintry mix Friday impact the Boston area tomorrow, with significant snow and sleet predicted to make the commute particularly difficult.

The heaviest snow will arrive in the early morning hours Friday and become heavy quickly. Mid to late morning some sleet and freezing rain will develop south of the Mass Pike with some rain along the southernmost coast, Cape, and Islands. The intensity of the snow and mix will gradually lighten through the afternoon, but not truly taper off until evening.

Most of North Massachusetts, including Boston, is predicted to receive 8-12″ inches of snow. 5-8″ of snow and sleet south of the Pike, and 2-5″ on the South Coast and Cape where that transition to rain is most likely. Commuting will be particularly difficult throughout the day. If you are able, stay off the roads with slippery conditions expected, stay with WEBN Boston news throughout the day as we track this storm.
