Baseball season is finally here, and Opening Day could not be filled with more exciting matchups. April 8, 2022 has the most historic rival in baseball: the Boston Red Sox versus the New York Yankees. The Red Sox are heading to the Bronx to take on this historic team and rival.
The Red Sox are hoping to take this Opening Day series against the Yankees to gain momentum and confidence in the very early division title race. The Red Sox compete in one of the most competitive divisions in baseball, and need all the help they can get to win. Not only do the Red Sox have to take on the Yankees, but also the young team of the Tampa Bay Rays, and the explosive Toronto Blue Jays. The Red Sox finished a few games behind the division-winner Rays after losing a series against the Yankees at the end of the season.
The Yankees currently have the most wins against the Red Sox all time with a 1232-1033-14 record. Even though the Red Sox are currently losing in the all-time record, the Red Sox took most of the games last season, and have improved versus the Yankees over the past five seasons. The Red Sox also currently have a more recent World Series title than the Yankees, and beat the Yankees in the Wild Card Game last year to make the American League Division Series.
The matchups this year against the Yankees will be all about power. Both teams have power across their respective lineups. The Yankees have the powerful outfield duo of Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge, while the Red Sox have the explosive infield trio in Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts and Trevor Story.
This year, the many games between the Red Sox and Yankees can be expected to be filled with many great memories and moments. The Red Sox are looking to take every series this year against the Yankees and close the gap on that all-time record.
