Grant Williams one game, no pay suspension

Grant Williams has been suspended for “recklessly making contact with and directing inappropriate language toward a game official” during a Celtics vs. Chicago Bulls game on Oct. 24. Early in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s game, Williams was called for a blocking foul towards Zach LaVeine who was attempting to drive to the basket, right after Williams had been called for a charge when the Celtics had possession.

After Williams was called for the defensive foul, he immediately perked up and the side of his body made contact with game official Cheryl Flores. Although the contact didn’t appear to be intentional, he was ultimately called for a technical foul and instantly ejected. Williams will carry out his suspension during the Celtics game vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers on Oct.28.

On Thursday, Oct. 27, Williams said he was “disappointed” about letting his team down by having to miss a game and would not be appealing the league’s ruling. He also states, “When it comes to the punishment, it’s just. I made a mistake.”

In Williams absence, Sam Hauser, Blake Griffin, and Luke Kornet are all candidates to fill in for additional minutes for the Celtics during Friday night’s game.
