Real Madrid beat Liverpool yesterday in the Champions League Round-of-16. This was the rematch for last year’s Champions League final, which Real Madrid won.
It started off strong with Liverpool going up 2-0. Just four minutes into the game, Darwin Núñez netted the first goal of the game. Not long after, Mohamed Salah scored a goal of his own. Having a two-goal lead, Liverpool was sitting pretty about to finish the first half.
A few minutes before the first half was finished, Real Madrid scored their first goal and Vinícius Júnior’s first goal of the game. Júnior scored his second goal of the game 15 minutes later, tying the game. Éder Militão and Karim Benzema scored one and two goals respectively, increasing Real Madrid’s lead to 5-2 and securing the victory.
It was a big win in the Champions League Round-of-16, but it was also a special win for Real Madrid.
“We dedicate this victory to our honorary club president Amancio Amaro [who died on Tuesday],” Benzema said after the match.
The second leg of the Round-of-16 is on March 15 at Santiago Bernabeu.
