Massachusetts lawmakers expressed their support for the Israeli Government and people after the nation was attacked on Saturday. The unprecedented attack on Israel is on a major holiday.
Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey wrote on X, “I’m holding the victims of this violence and their families in my heart, and praying for the safety of the people of Israel.”
Rep. Bill Keating said, “America stands with the Government and people of Israel in the fight against terrorism.”
Palestinian military group Hamas attacked Israel early Saturday. Hamas stated the attack was in response to a blockade on Gaza and increased attacks and violence between Palestinians and Israelis over the past year. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared Israel was “at war.”
Israel began airstrikes in Gaza and mobilized troops. Rescue service officials reported at least 250 people in Israel were killed and 1,500 people were injured.
Rep. Lori Trahan said, “I wholeheartedly condemn the heinous terrorist attacks by Hamas that have killed dozens of Israeli citizens.”
President Joe Biden condemned the “appalling assault” by Hamas and pledged U.S. support for Israel.
“The United States unequivocally condemns this appalling assault against Israel by Hamas terrorists from Gaza, and I made clear to Prime Minister Netanyahu that we stand ready to offer all appropriate means of support to the Government and people of Israel,” Biden said in a statement.
