Boston Hockey is Back in Action

The 2023-2024 NHL season is officially underway. The Boston Bruins, despite the loss of last year’s key players, are off to an impressive 2-0 start. Headed by team captain Brad Marchand, the team looks to stay hot in the upcoming week.

To start off the season last week the Bruins took on the Chicago Blackhawks and first-round pick in the 2023 NHL draft, Connor Bedard. Bedard netted his first career goal 5:37 into the first period. After a celebratory moment, Ullmark picked up right where he left off. He put up 20 saves on the night and kept the Blackhawks to one goal.

The Bruins offense didn’t miss a beat. Trent Frederic found the back of the net 11:32 into the first period, tying the game at 1. In the second, Pastanak netted his first goal of the night on a wrist shot off a pass from Milan Lucic. He came right back in the third period and scored another goal to secure the Bruins their 3-1 victory and first win of the season.

Three days later, on Oct. 14, the Bruins took the ice for game two against the Nashville Predators. The Bruins were behind again early after Colton Sissons put the Predators on top 3:29 into the first period. James Van Riemsdyk followed up with his first of two goals on the night towards the end of the first to make the score 1-1 going into the second.

After a back-and-forth second period, Pastrnak scored an unassisted goal putting the Bruins up 2-1. This was short-lived as Colton Sissons tipped in a shot to tie it right back up. Two minutes into the third and final period of the night, Van Riemsdyk scored his second goal, giving the Bruins their second win of the season.

The Bruins take a few days off as they prepare for their next game on Thursday, Oct. 19 in San Jose against the Sharks. The Sharks are 0-1-1 thus far this season looking for their first win while the Bruins aim to continue their win streak.
