President Biden and Jill Biden landed in Lewiston Maine Friday afternoon, to mourn with the
community after a deadly mass shootings left 18 dead and dozens injured last week.

State officials including Mayor Carl Sheline, House Speaker Rachel Talbot Ross, and Governor
Janet Mills, met the President and First Lady at the airport upon their arrival.

The President and First Lady will honor the victims, meet with grieving families, and thank first
responders during the trip, according to the White House.

In his address to the community of Lewiston, Biden will likely urge Congress to pass
stricter gun legislation, which would ban assault-style weapons and enforce background checks.

“Congress has the power to ensure an event like this does not happen again. The time is now to
act,” said White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
