Middlesex Superior Court Judge Christopher Barry-Smith dismissed a class-action lawsuit brought forth by three Newton families seeking damages related to the recent strike.

The lawsuit claims that the strike refused students their right to an education.

Barry-Smith filed to get teachers back into classrooms. He also ruled that the union should pay $625,000, $275,000 of which will go to Newton Public Schools and the rest will be paid to the Commonwealth Treasury.

After dismissing the Newton families’ lawsuit, Barry-Smith announced, “The case is over, and this motion to intervene is denied as moot.”
