Casting directors are always looking for Boston talent

Oscar-nominated films “The Holdovers” and “American Fiction” were both filmed in Massachusetts. This year, Boston actors are in the spotlight.

Boston Casting is responsible for local actor exposure in these best-picture hopefuls.

“Everyone that you see in [“The Holdovers”] are Bostonians,” Boston Calling casting director Angela Peri told WCVB.

“The Holdovers” lead, Dominic Sessa of Deerfield Academy, had never acted in a film before, according to casting director Lisa Lobel. Meanwhile, Naheem Garcia, another “The Holdovers” star, comes from Roxbury.

Boston Casting casts dozens of locals in speaking roles and thousands of extras per film.

“We love seeing new faces and meeting new people and watching them come along in their career. We don’t want every movie to look the same. So we need everybody,” said Lobel.
