Solar eclipse makes Boston stop and watch

By Hollie Raposo

As you may have heard, the solar eclipse is happening again and encroaching on Boston and  other parts of New England. On April 8, 2024, millions of people in the United States will be  looking up. For two hours the sun will be covered by the moon. Some parts can see the eclipse at  the peak point of 100% for about three minutes.

The last time this happened was in 2017 and passed at 100% for 15 states. Getting 100% of solar eclipse is an exceedingly rare occurrence. For those couple of hours, the temperature lowers, and  the sky becomes dark. The sun is gone and covered by the moon that at 3:30 pm would not be  showing.

In Boston, we will be able to see 92% of the solar eclipse compared to the 2017 report of 63%. If you are thinking about seeing the eclipse, it is worth the travel and getting to see the solar eclipse in all its glory. Just make sure to wear glasses to not hurt your eyes. Truly a revolutionary thing you don’t want to miss.

Another solar eclipse will not happen for another 20 years and there is a high chance of this not being clear in Boston.
