Gov. Healey recommends Biden “carefully evaluate” campaign continuation

Gov. Maura Healey recommended that President Biden reevaluate his presidential campaign on Friday. Healey is the first Democratic governor to publicly suggest Biden reconsider reelection.
“Over the coming days, I urge him to listen to the American people and carefully evaluate whether he remains our best hope to defeat Donald Trump,” Healey said in a statement.
Healey recognized that the decision to continue or concede in the presidential race is solely up to President Biden. “Whatever President Biden decides, I am committed to doing everything in my power to defeat Donald Trump,” she continued.
Earlier this week, Healey spoke with other Democratic governors on a private call. She told White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients that Biden is in an “irretrievable” position after his presidential debate performance, she shared on the call.
Despite her opinion on Biden’s bid for reelection, she shared in her statement that he did “an outstanding job as president.”
President Biden responded to all opinions on his reelection bid on Friday,“Let me say this as clearly as I can: I’m the sitting President of the United States. I’m the nominee of the Democratic party. I’m staying in the race,” on X.
The next presidential debate is on Tuesday, September 10, under two months before Election Day.
