Dodgers top the Yankees 6-3 in game one of the 2024 World Series after Freddie Freeman hits the first walk-off grand slam in the history of the World Series.
This Friday was the first game of the 2024 World Series which ended in a dramatic 6 -3 victory for the Dodgers over the Yankees.
Dodgers player, Freddie Freeman brought the game home hitting the first game-ending grand slam in World Series history with two outs in the 10th inning. Freeman homered on the first pitch, a 92 mph inside fastball from Nestor Cortes, and raised his bat before beginning his run with the cheers of a sellout crowd in his ears.
Dodgers manager, Dave Roberts reacted to the moment by saying, “I cannot believe what just happened, That’s what makes the Fall Classic a classic, right, because the stars come out and superstars make big plays, get big hits, in the biggest of moments. … I’m speechless right now.”
Freeman, an eight-time All-Star missed three games during this year’s National League playoffs due to an ankle injury. He hasn’t had an extra-base hit the entire postseason until legging out a triple in the first inning this Friday.
Freeman spoke of his injury saying, “The last six days we treated it really well. I’ve been feeling pretty good. Right when I ran out to give high-fives to my teammates, I felt pretty good, because that was the first time I ran all week. So, ankle’s good.”
After his historic home run, Freeman ran to his father. “I was just screaming in his face. I’m sorry, Dad,” Freeman said. “He’s been there since I was a little boy, throwing batting practice to me every day. So this is a moment, it’s my dad’s moment.”
This is the 12th time the Yankees and Dodgers are up against each other in the World Series. The Dodgers are playing for their eighth title and second in five years while the Yankees are in the Fall Classic for the first time since their 2009 win.
Baseball fans can look forward to watching the second game of the World Series tonight.
