Drake Maye missed the majority of the Patriot’s week eight victory against division rivals the New York Jets with a concussion. Maye collided with Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood late in the first quarter and was ruled questionable to return minutes into the second. He was subsequently ruled out for the game.

The 22-year-old rookie has been in concussion protocol this week, but head coach Jerod Mayo has stated that he has been able to be a limited participant in practice.

In a Thursday press conference, offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt spoke on the fact that there is hope Maye has made progress in practice throughout the week. “He did show up yesterday in practice, did some limited things on the field,” Van Pelt stated, “Hopefully, he’s progressing. Very hopeful that things going in the way they’re trending.”

After starting the season as the backup to Jacoby Brissett, Maye made his first NFL start in week six against the Houston Texans. So far, the 2024 third overall draft pick has thrown for 564 yards, five touchdowns, and a QBR of 48.1%.

While the official word on Maye’s availability hasn’t been given, there is hope that Maye will complete the NFL’s concussion protocol in time to suit up on Sunday. If he is ineligible to return, Jacoby Brissett will take the reigns again.

New England will take on the Tennessee Titans on Sunday at Nissan Stadium.
