Boston reached a record-high temperature of 79 degrees Fahrenheit on Friday, According to the National Weather Service. For the past 50 years, the record was set at 77 degrees in 1974.

Surrounding cities have also set record-breaking high temperatures this fall. Worcester reached a high of 76 degrees, breaking its previous record of 73 degrees set in 2003. Providence has tied its record of 78 degrees, set in 1974. Hartford reached a high of 84 degrees surpassing its previous record of 81 degrees, also set in 1974.

These unseasonably warm temperatures won’t stick around for long as the National Weather Service predicts temperatures will fall back down to the 50s on Saturday and Sunday.

The National Weather Service posted on X saying, “A significant cool down is on the way for the weekend as high temperatures will drop 20+ degrees from Friday to Saturday! Don’t get used to it, though, as another abnormally warm period arrives for the middle of next week.”

Temperatures are expected to rise back up to the 60s and 70s this Tuesday and Wednesday.
